Florida Lifestyles
The communities of SouthShore have it all: affordable cost of living, lifestyle variety, pleasant weather, and low population density. Residents enjoy the convenience of proximity to large towns combined with the pleasure of small-town Florida. The area’s residential communities are a unique blend of architectural styles (from quaint cottages along the Little Manatee River to modern high-rise senior living and pre-civil war Georgian).

Parks & Recreation
When it’s time for fun, SouthShore accommodates beautifully with an abundance of outdoor activities. Fishing charters, an area yacht club, two private marinas, two scenic rivers – the Alafia and the Little Manatee – and deep-water canals leading out to open bay waters invite endless enjoyment for boaters and anglers alike. Meandering inlets and sunlit waters, mangrove islands, bird sanctuaries, canoe and kayak trails offer an ideal paradise for the area’s thriving ecotourism. Miles of hiking trails, numerous swimming beaches, thousands of acres of natural marine estuary and freshwater springs are among SouthShore’s natural highlights.

Arts & Culture
The visual arts receive a good showing in the region. The SouthShore area is home to several artists, galleries and shops, which work to capture the essence of the area’s natural beauty and depict local wildlife in realistic detail.

Shopping & Dining
Many fine shops and retail stores can be found in the SouthShore area. Antique, gift and specialty shops offer treasures for shoppers seeking unique merchandise. Local merchants provide wares ranging from fine apparel to health food and vitamin shops. Major groceries and national and regional department stores are represented here too. Friendly staff is happy to serve consumer and business needs.

Area restaurants serve up everything from fast food to fine dining, with several “home-style” restaurants in the best southern tradition. These local favorites prepare hearty meals from recipes handed down through the generations. Many menus feature fresh Florida seafood in tantalizing variety. Waterfront views enhance the dining experience at several restaurants. Another local tradition may be found in Mexican restaurants, which prepare authentic south-of-the-border specialties.

Life-Long Learning
SouthShore families are served by Hillsborough County Public schools. Schools in the area include Apollo Beach Elementary, Ruskin Elementary, Cypress Creek Elementary, Riverview Elementary, Summerfield Elementary, Gibsonton Elementary and Boyette Springs Elementary. Boyette Springs is SouthShore’s only year-round school. Area middle schools include Eisenhower, Progress Village and Marion Rodgers. The two area high schools, Riverview High and East Bay High serve SouthShore area students as well.

Business & Industry
When it comes to creating new jobs, the Tampa-St. Petersburg/Clearwater area is one of the fastest growing labor markets in the country. The region ranks 10th among the nation’s top 100 labor markets, according to a study by American City Business Journals, the Charlotte, NC-based parent company of the Tampa Bay Business Journal, and more than two dozen similar publications. In fact, out of the 10 fastest growing labor markets in the study, only two others, Atlanta and Phoenix-Mesa, have more jobs than Tampa-St. Petersburg/Clearwater market, which includes Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco, Citrus, and Hernando Counties.

Agriculture is very much a party of the area’s heritage and present economy. Known for decades for quality produce, especially tomatoes, farmers in and around Ruskin continue to harvest a wide variety of vegetables and fruits. Upscale restaurants in the Tampa Bay area even feature Ruskin produce by name on their menus. Farming is not limited to the edible variety.

Health Care
A wide range of health care facilities are located in SouthShore. Over 150 physicians and surgeons, from general practice to medical specialties and dentists, are in the community, with hospitals, health centers and long-term care facilities nearby.
